MacRoberts - construction legal experts at SELECT conference in Scottish Parliament

MacRoberts place as leaders in the field of construction law was recognised with Mike Barlow, a Partner in our Construction Group, speaking at the SELECT Conference event in the Scottish Parliament on 19 January.

This prestigious event on the issue of Late Payment and Security of Payment had Tavish Scott MSP - Leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats - as its keynote speaker, and other experts from various disciplines including Barclays, Rider Levett Bucknall, Scottish CASEC and the public sector also spoke in addition to MacRoberts.

The invited audience of public sector procurement specialists, industry experts and MSPs attending the Conference heard of the importance of project bank accounts, which allow payment to be made directly to suppliers rather than through a main contractor chain.

David Wright, Head of External Affairs at SELECT, said, “Business Secretary Lord Mandelson’s recent encouragement of the public sector to make payments within 10 days highlighted just how important this issue is to SMEs in the construction industry supply chain. The certainty provided by project bank accounts allows suppliers to tender more competitive quotes. This alone could save many millions of pounds for the public purse in Scotland, especially at a time when so many publicly-funded infrastructure projects are being brought forward to ease the effects of the recession.”
